There are many careers available in aviation. Some of the careers are specific to aviation – pilots, aircraft mechanics, flight attendants, and airport managers come to mind. Air Traffic Controllers and other Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) positions are directly responsible for the safety of aircraft, pilots and passengers, and work to ensure that aviation continues to be the safest mode of travel here in the United States of America. Many careers in aviation have similarities to other related fields, but with an aviation focus: civil engineers working on airports, for example, do similar work to engineers working on highways, but must apply standards developed specifically for aviation and deal with restrictions developed to maximize aviation safety.
Following is a list of categories for jobs in aviation. This is not a complete list, but will hopefully give you an idea of some of the opportunities that aviation can offer.
One thing to remember: airplanes are cool. You don't have to be a pilot to work in aviation. It takes a lot of people in a lot of different jobs to make aviation and flying as safe and efficient as it is. When you get to work around airplanes, it can make any job a lot more entertaining and interesting.
